LIVE, LOVE, RUN TACKY for EDMARC Hospice for Children! December 10th is going to be a BLAST! A portion of the race proceeds will be donated to EDMARC in memory of my BFDO! Start looking for your perfect Tacky Sweater NOW!

I lost my best friend of 30years and running partner in February 2013 to Melanoma, her name was Mary “Diddie” Ossi. She adored her husband and she loved both of her sons Nick & Thomas immensely. Diddie loved sailing, gardening, flower arranging, the beach, running, her family, her friends, her church…her life. Diddie was a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, teacher, RED SOX fan and amazing at all of it. When her cancer spread to her brain, she could no longer teach. (Diddie was a former teacher of the year at Larchmont Elementary and both of her parents are retired teachers) Diddie told me that even though she was no longer standing in front of a classroom and teaching, she was still teaching; Teaching doctors the effectiveness of new groundbreaking melanoma drugs. Teaching her friends and family that she wasn’t giving up without a good ole fashioned “red headed” fight. Diddie was an inspiration to everyone who knew her. I learned what an incredible impact Diddie made on children as a teacher when I read all of the messages sent to her by former students.

Cancer does not discriminate and children and their families are sometimes the hardest hit. Diddie’s love for children and EDMARC Hospice for Children just seems like a perfect fit. I have permission from Diddie’s family to make the donation to EDMARC in Diddie’s memory.

What You Can Do

While visiting EDMARC’s website, I found the “Patient & Families Wish List” page. We have added these items to our race website and requested that each runner bring one item from the list with them on race morning. Since the run is just before Christmas, I know that my running friends won’t let me down…runners are extremely generous! EDMARC Patient Families Wish List or EDMARC House Wish List

EVMS Dermatology and the Dermatology Student Group

EVMS is one of the only schools of medicine and health professions in the nation founded by the community, for the community. We are focused not only on preparing the next generation of health-care providers, but also on translating discovery into better health care for the people of Hampton Roads. Our vision is to become the most community-oriented school of medicine and health professions in the United States. While the benefits of discoveries at EVMS are felt globally, our research, education and patient care efforts grow from the needs of the people in our southeastern Virginia community:

  • EVMS faculty provides medical education and leadership for the next generation of top physicians, health professionals and researchers.
  • EVMS Medical Group physicians care for more than 1,000 patients daily.
  • EVMS’ research endeavors focus on the region’s most pressing health issues.
  • EVMS drives an annual $824 million in local economic activity.
